Hard Boiled Egg donations a hit in Waterloo Region
Gary West a local egg farmer in Shakespeare saw a need in Waterloo Region student nutrition programs to have an opportunity to enjoy delicious hard-boiled eggs like the students in Perth county enjoy. Gary introduced Nutrition for Learning to a donation program from Farm Credit Canada to supply eggs to local student nutrition programs as a part of their Drive Away Hunger campaign and since the beginning of this new donation program over 25,000 hardboiled eggs have been enjoyed by students in various schools in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and Elmira. “Hard-boiled eggs are a great addition to the Nutrition for Learning Programs and provide a healthy protein that students enjoy” says Brian Banks, Partnership Development Officer at Nutrition for Learning.
Eggs are produced at Gary’s farm in Shakespeare, shipped to Burnbrae farms to process them in to hard boiled eggs and are then shipped back to Waterloo Region to be distributed to local schools.
Nutrition for Learning is grateful to Farm Credit Canada, Egg Farmers of Ontario and Gary West for working together to ensure students in Waterloo Region attend school well nourished.
