Tacofest raises $52,000 for Meals on Wheels
Waterloo Region – Waterloo Region Tacofest promises three things: tacos, craft brews, and good times. The annual fiesta went above and beyond this year, not only achieving those goals but raising $52,000 for the clients of Community Support Connections – Meals on Wheels and More (CSC).
“Year after year, we are completely blown away by the support of our community,” said Rosalind Horne, Major Gifts and Engagement Lead at CSC. “We are grateful for our attendees, sponsors, vendors and volunteers who make this event possible, with all proceeds directly supporting our clients.”
For the past six years, the event has raised more than $190,000 for local seniors and adults with disabilities, helping them have access to the programs and services they need to live at home with independence and dignity.
On Friday June 22nd, 600 attendees packed into THEMUSEUM in downtown Kitchener, with part of King Street closed off so ‘Tacofesters’ could sample tacos and beer donated by 16 local restaurants and 16 Ontario craft brewers.
The fiesta is also a friendly competition for participating vendors as they compete for five awards.
Congratulations to Proof Kitchen + Lounge who was awarded the Golden Taco, The Rich Uncle Tavern for snagging the People’s Taco, and newcomer Cafe Pyrus proudly took home the Vegetarian Victor. The Best Brew went to North Works Brewing Co. and the snazzy new People’s Brew was awarded to KW Craft Cider.
Major sponsors including Heffner Toyota, Your Neighbourhood Credit Union, Brick and Co. Restorations Ltd., and eSentire, supported a variety of components from greening the event to entertainment.
Heffner Toyota joined the event for their third year in a row as the Transportation or ‘Tacomobile’ Sponsor, ensuring attendees had a safe ride home.
