Laurier remains a top choice for prospective students as first-year applications grow for fourth year in a row

Wilfrid Laurier University continues to be a top choice for students seeking an outstanding, high-quality university experience, according to application numbers released by the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC).

The number of applications from Ontario high school students who applied to Laurier for full-time studies by Jan. 17 rose 3.8 per cent over last year. Laurier has had an increase in applications in each of the past four years, experiencing one of the largest four-year cumulative increases in applications from Ontario high school applicants among all Ontario universities.

Ontario applicants who are no longer in high school, along with domestic and international applicants from outside of Ontario, have until May 1 to apply to Laurier. As of Jan. 17, the number of these first-year applications to Laurier has increased 15.5 per cent over the same period last year.

“The continued strength of our application numbers reflects Laurier’s reputation for academic excellence and student experience,” said Paul Jessop, vice-president: academic (acting). “Laurier students are deeply engaged with their university and they value the quality of our teaching, our innovative programming and the close, supportive nature of our campuses. This is why Maclean’s magazine ranked Laurier #1 in student satisfaction in our category for the past two years.”

Laurier is renowned for integrating high-quality academic programming with a wide range of experiential learning. Laurier graduates leave the university with a solid academic foundation, an ability to problem-solve and think creatively, and highly developed social and job skills gained through engagement in enriched academic experiences, student clubs, volunteer activities, workplace training, and community involvement.
