Ontario Chamber Conference Brings Together Government And Industry To Talk Sustainable Innovation Iniatives in Ontario

Today's Conference to Focus on Economic Growth and Environmental Stewardship

Today's Sustainable Innovation Conference at the University of Toronto will bring together the Honourable Rod Phillips, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, and industry stakeholders to discuss sustainable business practices in Ontario. Presented by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC), the theme of the conference is “Economic Growth Meets Environmental Stewardship”.

Participants will share best practices and strengthen their capacity for responsible innovation. Topics addressed throughout the day will include: local and global best practices in environmental leadership, examples of sustainable innovation from industry, and the role of both public and private sector organizations in advancing Ontario’s sustainability agenda.

“Ontario’s environmental resilience depends on the capacity of industry to innovate, and the government’s engagement with that innovation,” explains Ashley Challinor, Vice President of Policy of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce. “For business, it’s not just about social responsibility but long-term competitiveness. Sustainable innovation is just as vital to our economic future as it is to our environmental future.”

This conference will provide participants with a unique opportunity to influence the OCC’s advocacy and strategize with government and key industry stakeholders, through:

• Remarks from the Honourable Rod Phillips, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks

• Case study presentations from industry leaders, showcasing examples of sustainable innovation from a variety of industries across Ontario; and

• A panel discussion about the optimal roles of the private and public sector in meeting environmental goals.

Based on the discussion, the OCC will develop a summary document with the key takeaways and recommendations, which will form the basis of our ongoing advocacy with government.

The latest agenda can be found here.
