New partnership on deck at Upper Canada Park

Kitchener - As part of the redevelopment of the ball diamonds at Upper Canada Park, the City of Kitchener is excited to announce a partnership with Playball Academy Canada. Playball Academy Field will open for the 2019 ball season as one of the four diamonds at the park that are currently under renovation.

“We’re pleased to partner with the City of Kitchener to help support the development of quality recreational facilities for residents,” said Trevor Nyp, General Manager and Partner at Playball Academy Canada. "We are excited to show the baseball and softball community that we are more than just an indoor training facility. It is our ongoing goal to give back to the game as much as possible and can't wait to use Playball Academy Field in the coming summers to do so!"

“Sports are a key contributor to building strong and healthy communities,” said Mayor Berry Vrbanovic. “The skills players learn in sport are so much more than just athletic skills. We’re thrilled to partner with organizations like Playball Academy who share the vision of building young people’s capacity both as individuals and athletes.”

In 2016, Kitchener launched a program that looks for opportunities to offset the cost of delivering programs and services and help fund assets like parks and buildings. This program has helped form these types of partnerships where community minded businesses can expand their local presence while giving back to the community.

Upper Canada Park is undergoing a complete renovation which will see improvements to the sportsfields, as well as new recreational facilities like a skatepark, basketball courts, enhanced trails and a new playground.

“I’m so excited to see all the investment in this community,” said Ward 4 Councillor Yvonne Fernandes. “There is so much to look forward to – a new park, new trails, new skatepark and an expanded community centre!”
