Quarry Invests in Start-Up Aimed at Shifting Mindsets
St. Jacobs - B2B marketing firm Quarry has made a strategic multi-year investment to fund the launch of Carbon Design—a firm designed to serve revenue-responsible leaders in firms that have the potential to create, transform or disrupt markets.
The start-up is led by Scott Gillum, formerly president of the Washington office of gyro, a global B2B advertising agency. Scott also led gyro’s Challenger Marketing casework. Notwithstanding the big-agency pedigree, Scott’s plan is to offer a very different kind of business model:
“We’re searching for opportunities to help companies with disruptive or innovative products because we know they will have a difficult time breaking or shifting mindsets. This work calls for a startling flexibility of approach. So, our business model is flexible too. One day Carbon Design may look like a management consulting firm, the next week a digital strategy shop and the next week global marketing performance agency.”
Part of Quarry’s investment includes the energies of Quarry’s Chief Innovation Officer, Glen Drummond, working as the first in a planned network of Carbon Solution Architects. These Architects will focus on the discovery stage of new assignments–helping to frame problems and design solutions that will be delivered through Carbon’s carefully curated talent network. Drummond, who has a background in innovation strategy and digital experience design, is also mapping out a roadmap for Carbon’s digital platform, “Graphite.” According to Drummond:
“With Graphite, we plan to reduce friction for people on both the supply and demand side of Carbon’s mind-shifting marketing solutions.”
Quarry Chair, start-up advisor and venture-investor Alan Quarry explains Quarry’s investment decision this way:
“We’re going to learn a lot from this venture, and we’re going to help some remarkable clients open the minds of audiences to new possibilities. The business model is new; the goals are consistent.”
