Does the 12-hour workday work?

Chinese billionaire Jack Ma has once again defended his support for China's so-called "996" system, under which Chinese workers are expected to work from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., six days a week. Ma has said that working 12-hour days was "a blessing" and that without the 996 system, China's economy would "lose vitality and impetus." His comments have been backed by Richard Liu, founder of e-commerce giant, who warned that "slackers" were a risk both to national growth and his firm.
