Business community welcomes General Motors investments in Oshawa

Nancy Shaw, CEO of the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce (GOCC) and Rocco Rossi, President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) released the following statement in response to the General Motors (GM) announcement made yesterday.

“We are pleased to hear that GM has reached an agreement and is making investments in the Greater Oshawa community by re-skilling our workforce through the ‘Jobs Actions Centre’, retaining employment with intent to create new jobs, and adapting the Oshawa Plant Property into a test track for autonomous vehicles (AV). GM’s announcement today to remain operational in Oshawa as well as make key investments in the region will help ensure that our community is able to prosper and grow.” – Nancy Shaw, CEO, Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce

“As Ontario’s business advocate, we are encouraged to hear that GM will be retaining some operations in Oshawa and continuing to support jobs and businesses within our province. GM has long been a leader in Canadian auto manufacturing. Its operations are a key contributor to the Ontario economy by providing good jobs across the province as well as its various innovation-focused initiatives such as their Canadian Technical Centre in Markham. Today’s renewed agreement will help strengthen our economy as well as help continue to position our global leadership in autonomous vehicles.” – Rocco Rossi, President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce is distributed twice weekly; Tuesday and Thursday
