MT Space Announces Lineup for IMPACT 19

Sixth biennial international theatre festival held in Waterloo Region

The biennial festival will feature productions from Tunisia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Iran, as well as theatre and dance from across Canada and Waterloo Region with a focus on Indigenous and culturally diverse productions.

The launch will be held at La Cucina Kitchener and will be hosted by two up-and-coming performers who will be involved with the festival this year. Janice Lee, who will be directing the MT Space Young Company production, and Nigel Irwin, a Cree actor who recently toured to Tunisia with MT Space’s latest production AMAL, will MC the event with spoken word and music. This event will also include an announcement of funding for the festival as well as our local partnerships for this year. Brunch will be provided with the opportunity for attendees to sample and vote on an exclusive festival pizza by La Cucina!

IMPACT 19 is the sixth biennial international theatre festival presented by MT Space in Waterloo Region, and marks the 10-year anniversary of IMPACT. The festival will be held from September 24 to 29, 2019.

The lineup features theatre that is socially and politically relevant, addressing topics of migration, colonization, and family while holding up a mirror to our own instinctual human nature. This year's festival presents raw and unflinching personal narratives, and for the first time, will offer a street festival component in partnership with sister organization Neruda Arts.

Productions from Tunisia, Mexico, Ecuador, and Iran, as well as theatre and dance from Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto, Barrie, Six Nations of the Grand River, and locally born and bred work will be featured at IMPACT 19.

The festival will bring 100 artists, 100 industry professionals, 100 volunteers, and several thousand theatre-goers from across Canada to downtown Kitchener in an environment of collaboration and cultural exchange.

MT Space (founded 2004, Kitchener) is a multicultural theatre company that creates, presents and tours challenging work locally, nationally and internationally, as well as producing the biennial IMPACT theatre festival.
