Education Credit Union (ECU), Kindred Credit Union (Kindred), and Your Neighbourhood Credit Union (YNCU) announced their upcoming charity golf tournament, Credit Unions for Change. The fundraiser will be held at Rebel Creek on May 28, and it will include an 18-hole golf tournament, a boxed lunch, raffle table, and dinner.
The three credit union hosts operate in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. They are sharing the costs of the event and directing all profits to their three chosen charities, which are in support of food security. ECU will support Nutrition for Learning, Kindred will direct funds to The Working Centre, and YNCU has chosen to send proceeds to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region.
When asked why the credit unions are working together to host CUs for Change, Kerry Hadad, chief executive officer of YNCU stated: “YNCU and our partner credit unions, Kindred and ECU, are all focused on making our communities great places to live, work, play, and raise a family. By coming together to support such worthy organizations, we are showing the cooperative spirit that guides our businesses and sharing the connections that make us friends.”
Ian Thomas, Kindred’s newly appointed chief executive officer, concurs, saying “It’s fantastic to see how local credit unions are partnering to support our community, live our values, and acknowledge that we get further by working together.”
“I have always believed in collaboration and the cooperative movement,” adds ECU president and chief executive officer, Gary Renouf. “I am thrilled that CUs for Change has come to fruition and that by collaborating we are serving charities that are important to all three credit unions. I am looking forward to a fun and successful event on May 28th.”
Tournament registration is now open and can be accessed via each credit union’s website. In addition, CUs for Change is seeking event sponsorships. Interested potential sponsors should inquire with the respective credit unions.
