The following is a joint statement from Ron Gagnon, President and CEO of Grand River Hospital and Lee Fairclough, President of St. Mary’s General Hospital
We want to express our appreciation for the community’s support of our hospitals as we work hard to protect staff, physicians and care providers, volunteers, patients and their families during the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re asking for your continued support and patience as we take further measures.
Beginning Monday, March 16, Grand River Hospital and St. Mary’s General Hospital will be screening all patients and visitors as they enter. Screening involves asking questions about an individual’s health and recent travel. Unless you have an appointment or are in need of urgent care it is not advisable to come to hospitals and you should not come to hospital for COVID-19 testing unless you are directed to by Waterloo Region Public Health. At the same time we will be limiting visitors and companions to one per patient except for exceptional circumstances. These measure will continue for as long as necessary. We want everyone to stay safe so whether in hospital, at home or out in the community we remind you to continue to wash your hands thoroughly and often, and to keep a distance of two metres from others. Again, we thank you for your support and understanding.
