Leadership Waterloo Region (LWR) has two very good reasons to celebrate at their upcoming gala BMW Grand River presents: Bow Ties, Blues & Barbecue on January 25th. The first, is because of Mike Murray, the event’s newly appointed Honourary Chair. The second is community leader and friend, Teresa Norris-Lue.
When Mike Murray announced his retirement from his role as CAO of the Region of Waterloo, LWR staff knew they needed to honour him in some way. “Mike has been a long-time champion and friend to LWR and we couldn’t think of a better way then to appoint him as Honourary Chair for the 2020 Gala,” shares Leadership Waterloo Region (LWR) CEO, Diane Wiles. “Celebrating Mike and his contributions not only to our organization but to our community will be both a privilege and a pleasure.”
Teresa Norris-Lue (photo) is also no stranger to LWR. A graduate of the 2003 class and long-time volunteer, Teresa has also made her mark on our community in her day-to-day work at Cowan Insurance Group, and with her dedicated volunteerism. “She has given of her time and her leadership talent to LWR as well as numerous local organizations, and we are delighted to have yet another LWR Alumni be honoured with this prestigious award.”
In addition to LWR, Teresa has invested herself in organizations such as: Strong Start, Nutrition for Learning, Waterloo Rotary Club, Junior Achievement of Waterloo Region, the United Way and Out of the Cold, just to name a few. Teresa’s history of leadership and volunteerism made her an easy selection for the 2020 recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship.
Presented by the Rotary Club of Kitchener Conestoga, the Paul Harris Fellowship began in recognition of Paul Harris who founded Rotary International in 1905. Adds Rotary Kitchener Conestoga representative Tony Denison, “Rotary Clubs have awarded the Paul Harris Fellow for many decades in recognition of outstanding commitment to the community, and we are delighted to not only be able to recognize committed community leaders like Teresa, but to partner once again with Leadership Waterloo Region in presenting the award.”
Teresa and Mike will be honoured at LWR’s annual leadership gala BMW Grand River presents: Bow Ties, Blues and Barbecue on Saturday, January 25th. The gala celebrates community leadership by raising funds for Leadership Waterloo Region’s leadership development programs.
This year’s blues club themed event will feature delicious southern food, and most importantly spectacular blues music. Headliner Spencer MacKenzie will top off the evening with his deep, soulful, true to the blues sound, with an electrifying twist that captivates his audience. Adds Wiles, “We are very excited to have Spencer and his band playing for us that night, but you won’t want to miss dinner either – when we say ‘come hungry’ – we mean it!”
Tickets to the gala dinner will be available for sale until Friday, January 17th online at: www.leadershipwrgala.com. Corporate tables can be booked directly with Diane and her team at LWR via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
