Waterloo gets Googled Search engine 'thrilled' to acquire Reqwireless technology, engineers
Google Inc. has quietly established a growing foothold in Waterloo, Ont. -- the home of Research In Motion Ltd. -- following the stealth acquisition of a wireless startup last summer, as well as plans to staff up a recently established research and development facility. Google disclosed yesterday it acquired Reqwireless Inc., which makes Web browser and e-mail software for wireless devices -- although the small wireless company's products are no longer available for purchase.

Toronto - The President of the Association representing international automobile manufacturers in Canada announced today that the thirteen member companies of the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers of Canada (AIAMC) had achieved record sales in 2005 of 685,880 light duty vehicles representing 43.3% of the market, up from 42.5% in 2004.

GM continues sales gains in December and finishes the year on a high note up 2.6%
OSHAWA - For the 2005 calendar year, General Motors of Canada maintained its leadership position delivering 456,557 units. This represents over 200,000 units more than its nearest competitor. GMCL dealers and retailers delivered 36,395 vehicles in December 2005, a 1.5% increase over the same month last year. Passenger car sales for the month were up 2.2% to 17,404 units while trucks were up slightly at 18,991 units.

Feds Hit NTP Patents, Again
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued another preliminary ruling invalidating mobile email patents held by NTP, which is engaged in a long-running intellectual property dispute with Blackberry maker Research In Motion Ltd. (RIM). The "non-final action," issued last Friday by the patent office, does not signal a final victory for RIM, but it could bolster the Waterloo, Ontario-based company's strategy of attempting to wait out the legal case being waged against it by NTP in hopes that the U.S. government will ultimately render moot all the NTP patents.
