BFGoodrich Tire Manufacturing to Close Ontario Facility
KITCHENER, -- BFGoodrich Tire Manufacturing, a business of Michelin North America (Canada) Inc., announced yetserday that it will close its facility located in Kitchener, Ontario. Manufacturing operations will continue until July 22, 2006. The company will shift production to other BFGoodrich Tire Manufacturing facilities in North America.

DaimlerChrysler Canada reports January Sales up 10.7 per cent
WINDSOR, ON, Feb. 1 - DaimlerChrysler Canada today reported a total of 16,405 units sold in January, including 4,284 cars and 12,121 trucks. Compared to 14,816 units in January 2005, sales for the month are up 10.7 per cent. Car sales increased 17.8 per cent from 3,638 units last year and truck sales rose 8.4 per cent from 11,178 units.

TORONTO, Feb. 1 - Honda Canada Inc. reported combined sales of 6,698 units by its Honda and Acura divisions for January, an increase of 5 per cent compared to last year. Sales for the Honda Automobile Division were 5,796 units, up 5.9 percent, and the Acura Division reported sales of 902 units, compared to 907 units last year for a decrease of 0.6 per cent.

Bell Canada to form new income trust for regional customers
MONTREAL, Feb. 1 - BCE Inc. today announced its intention to form a new telephone income trust that will own and manage 1.6 million local access lines in parts of Bell Canada's territory in Ontario and Québec. The regional trust will be an important part of Bell Canada's overall communications business. Bell Canada expects to retain an approximately 50% interest in the Trust following the planned distribution of trust units to BCE shareholders.

Waterloo educational support staff reach tentative settlement

November 2005 - Gross domestic product by industry
The Canadian economy expanded by 0.2% in both October and November. The strength in the services industries more than offset a decrease in goods production. Growth was concentrated in retail trade, notably from vigorous sales of new motor vehicles, as well as in construction activities, and in tourism-related industries. Despite sporadic strikes by Quebec teachers, educational services also contributed to the growth as British Columbia teachers resumed work after walking out in October.

Housing starts will moderate
OTTAWA, Jan. 31 - Housing starts will continue to moderate this year to 208,700 units after reaching 225,481 units in 2005, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation's (CMHC) first quarter Housing Market Outlook, Canada Edition report. After five consecutive years above 200,000 housing starts, residential construction will decline to 194,800 units in 2007.

This was the message delivered by Washington at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2006 to both developed and developing countries as they grapple with the huge issues still open in trade liberalization talks.
