Selling CDs has, for many years, been a good way for an act to reclaim the margin that would otherwise have been snaffled by a retailer. But it made no sense to this band once they discovered that by selling CDs for $10 they were cannibalising sales of their $20 T-shirts.

Data from the annual July farm survey, a preliminary survey of Canadian field crop production of 17,300 farmers conducted from July 27 to August 5, indicated that farmers are concerned about the effects of recent drought-like growing conditions in the Prairie Provinces.
Statscan - Prairie farmers reported that the production of major crops, with the exception of spring wheat and flaxseed, should improve from 2006 estimates, as a result of increases in harvested area. In spite of the dry conditions in the East, grain corn production should reach a record in both Ontario and Quebec.

Biofuels plant opens in Northern Indiana
The world's largest soybean processing and biofuels plant officially opened this morning in northern Indiana in Claypool. Louis Dreyfus Commodities says when fully operational, the facility will buy about $450 million in soybeans from Indiana farmers annually and will use about 50 million bushels of soybeans per year. The plant will also employ about 70 workers.

Takeover bid by Transcontinental to acquire printer PLM Group for C$3.50 per share
MONTREAL and TORONTO - Transcontinental Inc. and PLM Group Ltd. on August 21, 2007 announced that Transcontinental has agreed to make a takeover bid to the shareholders of PLM, Canada's fourth-largest printer. PLM has 470 employees in four facilities in the Greater Toronto Area. In 2006, it reported revenues of $126 million.
