Labour Force Survey November 2006

Employment edged up an estimated 22,000 in November, the result of gains in part-time work. The unemployment rate rose 0.1 percentage points to 6.3%, as more people entered the labour market in search of work. Following a pause over the summer months, employment has risen by 89,000 since August. So far this year, employment has grown by 1.7%.

TORONTO - Vehicle sales and production in Mexico will set record highs in 2006, according to the latest Scotiabank Global Auto Report, released November 28, 2006, by Scotia Economics. Longer-term, Mexico also represents the auto industry's only growth market in North America. Trade ruling on GM foods should help Canadian farmers

The Canadian government says farmers stand to make big gains from a trade ruling that opens European markets to genetically modified organisms (GMOs). A World Trade Organization panel ruled this week that the European Union (EU) moratorium on biotechnology products between June 1999 to August 2003 was illegal under trade rules. "This ruling will enable Canadian producers to access European markets and effectively market their products," International Trade Minister David Emerson said in a release.

The wireless industry recruited just over 326,000 new customers from March to June of this year, bringing the total number of subscribers at the end of the quarter to 17.2 million, up 10.9% from the end of the second quarter of 2005. Girls and boys differed in important ways in their readiness to learn as they entered school at the age of five, with girls outperforming their male counterparts in several areas, a new study has found.
