Transcontinental acquires Italian-language newspaper Corriere Italiano

MONTREAL - Transcontinental Media announced it has acquired the Italian-language weekly newspaper Corriere Italiano, which serves the Italian community in the Montreal area. The acquisition brings Transcontinental Media's newspaper total to 171 community publications across Canada, with approximately 250 million copies annually. It is the first time the company will publish a newspaper in a language other than English or French.

"Transcontinental is proud to add the Italian-language Corriere Italiano to our strong and growing roster of community newspapers," said Marc-Noel Ouellette, Senior Vice President, Newspaper Group, Transcontinental Media. "Corriere Italiano has a solid history, spanning over 55 years, of serving the Italian community in Montreal and we plan to continue that tradition."

The first issue of Corriere Italiano was published by Alfredo Gagliardi in 1952 and the weekly paper currently reaches approximately 13,500 households in the Montreal area.

"We're proud to be associated with Transcontinental because, in its hands, we're reassured that the mission and the cultural relevance of Corriere Italiano will be preserved," said Carole Gagliardi, Publisher and daughter of founder Alfredo Gagliardi. "We plan to continue our role within the Italian community with the same respect and professionalism as always."
