Chicopee hosts the Dave House Memorial Skiathon

Dave House Memorial Ski-a-Thon

Kitchener - The 3rd Annual Dave House Memorial “Ski Everest” ski-a-thon will take place Saturday March 15th 2008 at Chicopee Ski & Summer Resort. It provides an opportunity for participants to join in a fun event and a great day of skiing or snowboarding, along with the opportunity to win valuable prizes; all while raising funds for a noteworthy charity. This fundraising event for the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada is held annually in memory of Dave House who was a ski instructor at Chicopee for over twenty (20) years. Dave lost his courageous multi-year fight with cancer in 2005, leaving behind a young family.

“Friends & family came together, with Chicopee to create this event in honor of Dave and his love of the sport”, states Andrew Melchers, Dave’s brother-in-law. “We’re proud to donate the raised funds in Dave’s honor to a great and appropriate cause.”

The “goal” of the day besides having a great day on the slopes of Chicopee is to ski the vertical height of Mt. Everest, which is 29035’. This is accomplished by skiing or snowboarding 145 runs at Chicopee (36 runs each for a team of four skiers and/or snowboarders). The team has six (6) hours to ski or ride the equivalent height of the world’s tallest summit. Can you and your team reach the peak?

In the first two years, the event has managed to raise over $6000 for the Brain Tumor Foundation. The ski-a-thon is a family oriented day of skiing with a barbecue and great prizes. People are encouraged to organize a team to join in on the fun. The cost to participate is $40 for adults and $25 for students/children; including lift ticket and barbecue lunch.
