Environment Pilot Project
Free for all EcoCab comes to Canada
Toronto - EcoCab is coming to Canada and Torontonians will be getting a free ride. The environmentally friendly, pedal-powered taxi known for reducing traffic congestion and vehicle emissions in many US and European cities will make its way on to Toronto streets this summer.
Scheduled to launch as a pilot program this spring, the vehicles will offer downtown core commuters an environmentally responsible form of transportation that is not only free of emissions, but free of cost as well. Funded entirely by corporate sponsors, Torontonians will be able to enjoy a fast and free commute between the areas that they live, work and play while doing their part to help the environment along the way. In return, participating sponsors will have the opportunity to brand their EcoCabs and interact with riders while on route, offering them special incentives, branded entertainment and in some cases product samples. The program will run until fall giving companies the choice of which months they wish to participate in and the quantity of EcoCabs they may require.
Sponsorship sales and vehicle operations are being handled by GO Mobile Media, a Canadian based Out of Home advertising company committed to the successful development of non traditional media properties and programs. “By combining fuel-free transportation with an interactive brand experience that provides consumers a no-cost commute, companies can reinforce their commitment to environmental responsibility and community minded thinking” said Will Kozma, Director of Marketing for GO Mobile Media.
The program is a creative initiative intended to complement Mayor David Miller’s environmental action plan to cut Toronto’s greenhouse gas emissions by 80% over the next four decades. The plan entitled “Change is in the Air” also calls for a 20 % reduction in smog-causing pollutants by the year 2012. Both companies and consumers are being urged to do their parts to assist in the environmental effort.
The EcoCab combines a futuristic outer shell with a revolutionary pedal powered transmission to offer riders a truly unique and safe transportation experience. Operated by specially trained drivers acting as both city and brand ambassadors, the vehicles are consistently in demand and create excitement wherever they go. Able to easily navigate through congested city streets, the EcoCab provides convenient door to door service between office buildings, transit stations, shopping areas, restaurants, and entertainment attractions. The vehicles will also service the cities busy summer street festivals and special events by offering its free shuttle service to both Toronto residents and visiting tourists.
Companies wishing to learn more about this unique program are encouraged to contact GO Mobile Media at their earliest convenience as sponsorship positions and vehicle inventories are limited.
