Laurier takes first place in University of Ottawa Financial Case Competition

WATERLOO — Laurier School of Business & Economics students finished first at the recent University of Ottawa Financial Case Competition for the second year in a row.

Greg Dean, David Gourlay and Sean Sasso from Laurier competed in several rounds over two days before defeating strong competition from the University of Ottawa in the General Finance Case. Tom Kapsimalis, Brian Lam and Lu Jing also from Laurier placed second in the Venture Capital Case event within this competition.

The Finance Society Academic Competitions Committee organize this competition to provide top business students with challenging and enriching opportunities to learn, compete and network with other finance students and professionals.

“When our students consistently deliver stellar results in highly competitive environments like this, we can’t help but feel proud and validated in our programs and teaching approach,” said Ginny Dybenko, dean of Laurier’s School of Business & Economics.

Laurier’s strength in the finance stream at the undergraduate level was also seen in their recent second place win at the Dalhousie Credit Risk Case Competition, an event that ensures students are educated in the less-emphasized areas of risk analysis and risk management.
