Trends Fourth Quarter 2007

Canadian PC/Notebook Market

The Canadian microcomputer market finished 2007 in lackluster fashion. Shipments during Q4 2007 were only 3% higher than during Q4 2007. The results from Q4 2007 might be an indicator that the economy is slowing. Better growth had been expected for the microcomputer market in Q4 2007. The rate of year-over-year growth had equaled or exceeded 10% in each of the three preceding quarters of 2007.

Canadian Optical Drive Market

Although, the Canadian optical drive market finished 2007 with significant decreases in terms of both units and shipments, the quarter nonetheless provided good reason for celebration. During Q4 2007 almost 5200 Blu-Ray drives were sold in Canada. This is truly a dramatic event.

Canadian Display Market

The Canadian Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD) market is losing momentum. During Q4 2007, shipments were only 2% greater than in Q4 2006. This is the lowest rate ever of year-over-year growth for LCD Monitors. The reason for this decline is that the replacement cycle of CRT displays has effectively ended. By the end of Q2 2007, almost every microcomputer that was being actively used in Canada was attached to an LCD monitor.
