Have a tree planted in your classes’ honour!
Hamilton - Elementary school classes in the Hamilton and Halton Boards of Education have been invited to participate in the to the Ontario Garden Show’s Green Team Challenge. Submission may include an essay (no more than 500 words), mural or any other creative project to show why their class is the MOST environmentally friendly /green class in the city.
“Today’s youth are more informed about the environment than any previous generation and we want to hear their stories as to why their ‘Green Team’ class is the most environmentally friendly,” said Shana Narciso-Evans, Show Manager. “The chosen class will have a tree planted at their school in their honour (tree and planting donated by Royal Botanical Gardens). Each student will receive complimentary admission tickets for their families to the Ontario Garden Show taking place April 17-20th, 2008 as well as a free family pass to the RBG Earth Art Exhibit taking place July 18th to October 13th, 2008.”
All entries must be received to Ontario Garden Show management by April 4th, 2008 by 5pm. The class will be notified April 7th, 2008. Tree planting ceremony will take place April 10th, 2007. Highlights of this year’s Ontario Garden Show include:
Ö Gardener's Marketplace - There is no better place to stock up on annuals, perennials, patio plants, bulbs and seeds or find something new for your home such as an exotic tree or tropical plant.
Ö Best of Spring Floral Competition - Local floral designers create colourful and stunning floral arrangements for everyone to enjoy.
Ö EcoGardening - Ecologically friendly gardening is becoming more and more popular. In response to this, the Ontario Garden Show will showcase products, services and information so that gardeners can create eco-friendly gardens.
Ö Garden Stage The stage features presenters such as CityLine’s Frankie Flowers and offers many presentations and demonstrations by gardening personalities, authors and Canada's finest horticultural specialists that will educate and inspire viewers.
Ö Little Green Thumbs Workshop - A place for little green thumbs to be educated and entertained. This workshop will keep children, ages 3-12, busy with garden-related arts and crafts.
Workshop Hours: Thursday & Friday 3 7pm (Parents must supervise children while doing crafts)
Supervised Daycare: Saturday & Sunday 9am 5pm (Supervised by RBG Nature Centre Staff)
Ö Leaping into Green - This year’s show will be powered by Bullfrog Power, a company that offers clean, emissions-free power from sources such as wind and low-impact water power instead of carbon-intensive sources like coal and oil (www.bullfrog.com).

The Ontario Garden Show is the largest and most popular gardening event held annually at the Royal Botanical Gardens with more than 20,000 visitors - avid gardeners and novices alike.
