CAW Fight-back Against Sysco Foods

PETERBOROUGH - The CAW brought together hundreds of local leaders and activists from across Ontario as part of a co-ordinated effort to disrupt operations at Sysco Foods and have the company return to the bargaining table.

Actions started in Ottawa with pickets set up at key delivery locations such as the Weston Hotel and the Ottawa International Airport. Actions will be ramped up in various locations across the province as the week continues.

Sysco locked out 275 workers at the Peterborough location, this past Friday at 3:30 and proceeded to bring in scabs. The Sysco workers are represented by CAW Local 414 and work in the warehouse and as delivery drivers.

The CAW demands the scab workers be removed immediately and will not return to the bargaining table until this happens.

Members at Sysco Foods have as much as 34 years seniority and have stated that unfair scheduling practices, ignoring seniority rights and a total disrespect by the employer all top their list of concerns which must be addressed. Sysco Foods has repeatedly ignored the contents of the workers' collective agreement, which was negotiated in good faith by the union.
