Woolwich Healthy Communities holds green technology fair and alternative energy tour in Woolwich
St. Jacobs, Ont. - Woolwich Healthy Communities (WHC) is organizing an event to encourage people to reduce their ecological footprint. The event consists of a Green Technology Fair and Alternative Energy Tour.
The fair will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Woolwich Township Arena, 29 Parkside Dr., in St. Jacobs from 11 am until 5 pm. Over 30 businesses and organizations will be involved, providing environmentally friendly services and products such as green energy systems, home and business energy audits, the latest in ‘green’ car technology, carsharing, water conservation and pesticide alternatives. NextEnergy, Home Hardware, Residential Energy Efficiency Program (REEP) and Community Renewable Energy Waterloo (CREW) are among the participants.
The tour, which begins at 1 pm and finishes at 4 pm, will include the following sites:
Solar Energy - 112 Grandview Drive, Conestogo
Geothermal Energy - 46 Centre St., Elmira
Strawbale Construction - 10 Chalmers, Winterborne
Wind Energy - 18 Covered Bridge Dr., West Montrose
The Green Technology Fair will serve as the central location for free shuttle buses taking people to different sites on the tour.
The purpose of the fair is to raise people’s awareness of green projects, products and services and to create an opportunity for them to connect with local providers. People will also be able to raise questions generated by the tour with contractors and agencies at the fair.
This will be the third straight year for the tour and the first year for the fair. The event is a part of Healthy Communities Month which has been endorsed by Woolwich Township Council. The month also includes A Taste of Woolwich, a buy local food initiative, on Monday, April 14, 2008 from 5 to 8 pm, and various other environmental activities.
WHC is a community-based, not-for-profit initiative that works to make Woolwich an even better place to live: socially, economically and environmentally.
