Innovation Against Theft
Ship2Save thwarts car theft with Impinj RFID hardware and BizTalk Server RFID
RFID enabled key authentication enhances security and operational processes at luxury vehicle dealership
Las Vegas, Nevada - A Montreal based RFID system integrator, Ship2Save, has announced its RFID cabinet key solution, with Impinj’s UHF Gen 2 RFID chips, readers, and antennas, is part of an AVS Key and Inventory Solutions Inc. offering. The system prevents the theft of cars at a luxury vehicle dealership by warning the dealership that a possible theft is likely to occur. Leveraging the RFID data from the key authentication process, Ship2Save’s Operation Management System (OMS) and Microsoft’s BizTalk Server RFID facilitate and enhance the dealership’s asset management systems.
This novel approach assists in the prevention of theft rather than its detection. The system in place provides a way to authenticate car keys upon their return from a test drive. An RFID reader captures the tagged key’s unique identifier and relays its presence to central control. The solution is based on BizTalk Server 2006 R2, which delivers capabilities that extend core process management technologies to connect real-time business processes and leverage intelligent RFID data.
“We worked closely with the client to come up with the design of the system based on specific requirements,” explains Amninder Singh, Director of Product Development at Ship2Save. “However,” continues Singh, “the realization of the solution was possible because of the availability of cutting edge tools such as Impinj’s Speedway® reader and BizTalk Server RFID. The resulting RFID data becomes instantly available as valuable business information, which can then be utilized for making the right decisions in a timely fashion.”
“By focusing on the needs of its customers, Ship2Save has created an intelligent RFID solution that addresses a valuable business problem,” said Steve Sloan, Lead Product Manager, Microsoft Corp. “By working with insightful, value-driven partners we can make RFID relevant to businesses of all sizes, in a variety of industries.”
According to Eddie Ng, Project Manager at Ship2Save, the smart cabinet solution is currently used for one aspect of the sales process at dealerships. AVS Key and Inventory Solutions Inc. will be evaluating other key business aspects where such smart systems deployments can impact the bottom line.
“With each dealership having its own system in place, we are delighted that our solution shows versatility when it comes to integration”, remarks Anoop Sharma, President of AVS Key and Inventory Solutions Inc. “This important feature played a major role in our decision to work with Ship2Save and its line of RFID business applications”, adds Sharma.
Advances in RFID technology have rendered RFID based smart systems ubiquitous in the security sector. The conception and utilization of a system that predicts theft is just one example of how the creativity of solution providers is contributing to the expansion of the growing range of RFID applications.
