Massive Technology Show
TTC Riders offered the chance to “Get a Life” in Waterloo Region
WATERLOO REGION Tech professionals in the GTA will be offered the chance to “Get a Life” in Waterloo Region today, Wednesday April 30, during the Massive Technology Show at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. As part of its 2008 Recruitment Strategy and “Get a Life” campaign, Communitech: Waterloo Region Technology Association will be attending the MTC to highlight more than 2,000 opportunities in Waterloo Region’s technology sector.
The added incentive for MTC attendees is clear: Waterloo Region’s tech professionals are completely unaffected by any uncertainty around the TTC’s labour issues. The panic suffered amongst Toronto commuters over the weekend until the TTC strike was resolved highlights a key difference between Toronto and Waterloo Region the need to commute long distances to work at a great job.
“In Waterloo Region, you really can have it all”, says Karen Gallant, Director, Talent Networks at Communitech: Waterloo Region Technology Association. “Work on cool technology during the day, enjoy your family at night. You can be home from work in 10 minutes 15 on a bad day have dinner, and be out to coach the kid’s soccer game in plenty of time. You don’t spend hours of your day on the road.”
Waterloo Region is home to some of the fastest growing technology companies in Ontario, which are all in the market for talented people to join them. These companies include exciting startups like LiveHive Systems and AideRSS, fast movers such as Desire2Learn and Covarity, and global leaders like Research In Motion Limited and Open Text.
As part of Waterloo Region’s 2008 Recruitment Strategy, Communitech and its partners are focused on three main pools of talent:
- Recruiting talent out of Ontario’s universities and colleges;
- Enticing ex-pat Canadians to return home; and
- Offering a quality of life difference along with great job opportunities to tech professionals in the rest of Ontario.
For more information about opportunities in the fastest-growing technology cluster in Canada, job seekers are encouraged to visit waterlootechjobs.com or drop by the Communitech booth at the Massive Technology Show.
