WestJet Introduces Fuel Surcharge

Price of oil has almost doubled in last 12 months
CALGARY, ALBERTA-- WestJet announced the introduction of a fuel surcharge of $20, $30 and $45 on all short, medium and long-haul flights effective Tuesday, May 13, 2008.

WestJet Executive Vice-President, Guest Experience and Marketing, Bob Cummings commented, "This is not a decision we have taken lightly. All Canadians have felt the impact of rising fuel prices and the airline industry is no exception. We held off as long as economically possible but with the unrelenting and unprecedented increases in the cost of fuel over the last year, we are implementing this measure to offset the effect.

"Our low-cost structure and committed, resilient employees enable us to adapt quickly to any change in the external environment," continued Bob Cummings. "We remain committed to providing the best value for our guests and will continue to seek new and innovative ways to run our airline. This commitment will allow us to continue to offer seat sales to our guests and be the low-fare leader in Canada."
