The Aud will overflow with Great Big Sea this November

KITCHENER - Canada's Celtic rock sensations Great Big Sea (GBS) will make a memorable splash when they perform at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex on Nov. 20, 2008. Showtime is 8 p.m.

The concert will celebrate the recent release of the band's ninth album, Fortune's Favour, which sees the group embracing new sounds and ideas, fearlessly pushing the boundaries of its own art and music.

In fact, band members are calling their latest release a benchmark in their lifelong quest to marry the traditional music on Newfoundland with their own pop explorations.

"Our music is of Newfoundland," said singer/guitarist Sean McCann. "It would be impossible to do what we do if we were from anywhere else. Our songs come from the sea and the cliffs and the rocks and all the other natural beauties our country provides. Without her, we simply couldn't exist."

Aiding the band in its quest to mark uncharted territory is fellow Canadian indie artist Hawksley Workman, who lent his skills to the production of Fortune's Favour.

"We wanted to push ourselves, to be surprised by our own music," said GBS founding member Bob Hallett, "and Hawksley was the right pilot for the flight…or the fight, depending on the circumstances."

Hollywood celebrity Russell Crowe also has a hand in the new album, having written one of its songs - 'Company of Fools' - with GBS vocalist Alan Doyle.

Ticket prices for the Kitchener performance have been set at $49.50 and $57.50 (not including applicable service charges), all reserved seating.

Tickets for the show will go on sale this Friday, July 18, at 10 a.m., and will be available at all Ticketmaster locations, the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium box office and the Centre in the Square box office; by phone at 519-578-1570 in Kitchener or toll free at 1-800-265-8977; or online at www.centre-square.com
