UNIQUE YOGA EVENT BRINGS HOPE TO OUR COMMUNITY!

Waterloo - The fourth annual “Yoga for Hope” fundraising event in support of the HopeSpring Cancer Support Centre will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the Waterloo Community Arts Centre, 24 Regina Street South, Waterloo. This unique fundraiser is coordinated by a group of local, certified Yoga teachers who wish to help people in our community who are facing the challenges of cancer.

Yoga enthusiasts from beginners to experienced students are welcome to participate!

This popular event is an excellent opportunity to sample different styles of yoga while supporting a very worthy cause. The event begins at 7 a.m., with nine yoga classes taught during the day. The event ends at 4:30 p.m. with a closing ceremony that will honour those affected by cancer.

Over 300 people are expected to attend! Participants are welcome to choose any or all of the nine classes being offered at a cost of $45.00 for two classes, and $10.00 for any additional classes, or an all day pass for nine classes for just $70.00. All people registering prior to February 11th will receive a gorgeous, long sleeved T-shirt. Participants who raise pledges of more than $100.00 will receive a free day pass. There will be a prize for the most pledges raised, and raffle tickets will be available with many wonderful prizes to choose from. The Lotus Tea House is supplying a vegetarian lunch for only $5.00, with all proceeds to HopeSpring.

For the full Yoga for Hope schedule, please refer to the registration forms that are available at the HopeSpring Cancer Support Centre, located at 43 Allen Street West in Waterloo, or online at email address: www.hopespring.ca. Space is limited, so please register early!

Since 1996, people facing the challenges of cancer have found inspiration, information, encouragement and empowerment at HopeSpring. With respect for each individual's needs and wishes, HopeSpring's skilled staff and peer support volunteers offer comfort and compassion, and provide information about HopeSpring's free programs and services that help participants acquire a calmer and more confident frame of mind, and develop personal tools for healing.

In its comfortable, home-like setting, HopeSpring offers one-to-one peer counseling and support groups. There are six-week programs like “Tools for the Healing Journey” that help participants to use the skills of guided imagery, visualization and progressive relaxation to empower themselves to deal with cancer. One-day workshops on stress reduction, healthy eating, meditation and exercise are also offered. Participants are invited to try relaxation therapies, including therapeutic touch and reiki. Wigs and turbans are available from the Wig Boutique, and there is a well-stocked reference library. HopeSpring's programs and services are confidential, free of charge, available without a doctor's referral, and open to cancer patients, their family members and friends.
