Kuwait chooses Accreditation Canada to develop national accreditation program
OTTAWA - Accreditation Canada International has been commissioned to develop the national accreditation program for the Kuwait Ministry of Health. The Ministry intends to implement an accreditation program for healthcare quality and to ensure national standards developed specifically for Kuwait are followed. This two-year agreement is the largest contract that Accreditation Canada has signed with the Middle East.
The Ministry of Health, one of the largest ministries in Kuwait, was
established in 1936. The healthcare network in Kuwait is one of the best in
the Gulf region and among the finest in the world. Kuwaitis receive medical
services at government clinics and hospitals free of charge. Public healthcare
is maintained by an intricate network of primary and secondary health centres,
specialized hospitals and research institutions.
The Ministry chose Accreditation Canada to provide technical services for
the development and the implementation of a model for health services
accreditation. Accreditation Canada will establish an accreditation agency
which will include the development of customized standards and survey process.
It will also include the recruitment, development and training of
accreditation coordinators and surveyors.
The agreement was signed by Mr. Gilles Lanteigne, Vice-President and
Chief Operating Officer, Accreditation Canada and Kuwait Health Minister, Ali
Al-Barrak, at a ceremony in Kuwait. Minister Al-Barrak remarked, "we have
started a crucial step in the history of health in Kuwait through this
agreement, which will enhance confidence of the citizens and residents of the
level of health services in the country". Also at the ceremony were Canadian
Ambassador to Kuwait, Mr. Denis Thibault; Senior Trade Commissioner, Mr. Brian
Hood; and Asst. Undersecretary for Quality Assurance, Dr. Ibrahim Al Hadi.
Accreditation Canada is in a unique position to share the knowledge and
expertise gained from 50 years of experience that is based on processes and
results. "Quality and safety in healthcare is a priority that knows no
borders. We are honoured to assist the Kuwait Ministry of Health in their
quest to improve quality and safety in their healthcare organizations," said
Wendy Nicklin, President and CEO, Accreditation Canada. Kuwait is one of many
countries throughout the world - including France, United Arab Emirates (UAE),
Bahrain, Ireland, Serbia, Saudi Arabia, Costa Rica, Brazil and Italy among
others - that have turned to Accreditation Canada for their health
accreditation needs.
