eBay Canada Launches Search for 2008 Entrepreneurs of the Year

TORONTO - Fourth annual competition adds new Mompreneur* and Enviropreneur of the Year categories; offers more than $10,000 in prizes to top performing eBay entrepreneurs.

eBay Canada launches its fourth annual Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, a program to identify and reward Canada’s most successful and ambitious eBay entrepreneurs. This year the program includes two new categories: the Mompreneur* of the Year and the Enviropreneur of the Year categories

“Canadians are helping drive e-commerce in Canada by running successful small businesses on eBay,” says Erin Sufrin, public relations manager for eBay Canada. “This annual awards program celebrates our ongoing commitment to recognize and encourage Canadians’ efforts to grow their eBay businesses both locally and internationally.”

Last year’s eBay Canada Entrepreneur of the Year, Trevor Weldon (eBay ID: cleblancweldon), was looking for a way to stay home with his daughter, while supplementing his wife’s income. Tapping into the growing worldwide popularity of golf by selling golf practice nets on eBay, Trevor is able to work part-time, reserving most of his day for his family. Trevor’s entry beat out hundreds from other Canadian including an entry from an entrepreneur selling vintage concert t-shirts around the world, an eBay user selling more than 40 original paintings a month, and a Canadian high-end bicycle parts seller.

All entrants will be considered for the overall eBay Canada Entrepreneur of the Year Award which is open to eBay small business owners 18 years of age and older. Entrants may also choose to apply to one other category including: Young Entrepreneur of the Year, open to eBay small business owners between 18-24 years of age; Mompreneur* of the Year, open to eBay small business owners who are parents balancing their entrepreneurial instincts with family life; and Enviropreneur of the Year, open to those who have adopted “green” practices while selling on eBay.
