Steelworkers ratify agreement with Trenergy Inc.

ST. CATHARINES, ON - United Steelworkers' (USW) Ontario/Atlantic Director Wayne Fraser announced Monday that 105 members of USW Local 6519 have ratified a new, three-year agreement with St. Catharines boiler manufacturer Trenergy Inc.

The agreement increases current wages of $22.68 by a total of nine per cent over the life of the contract. Improvements have also been made to pensions, vision care, paid holidays, premiums for work done in confined spaces, along with early retiree group benefit coverage.

Trenergy has recently had a change in ownership and Local 6519 President Joe Kocis says part of the focus in bargaining was to establish a good working relationship between the new company and the union.

"The end result is a quality agreement for our members and we look forward to working with the new owners," Kocis said.
