Steelworkers ratify three-year agreement with Kubota Metal Corporation

ORILLIA - United Steelworkers' (USW) Ontario/Atlantic Director Wayne Fraser announced Wednesday that members of USW 9393 have voted to accept a new, three-year collective agreement with Kubota Metal Corporation.

The package includes wage increases of 2.5 per cent in the first and second years and three per cent in year three. The 270 workers' monthly pension formula increases by a three-year total of three dollars to $44 per month per year of service.

As well, improvements have been made to shift premiums, weekly indemnity, boot allowance, life insurance and the employees' drug plan, along with better dental and vision care coverage.

"Kubota is a successful manufacturer of centrifugal tubing and specialized pipe and our members are highly skilled in this unique field," said Fraser. "They deserve recognition for their contribution to this company."

The Orillia manufacturer, also known as KMF, has been owned since 1990 by the Kubota Corporation of Osaka, Japan.

The USW represents more than 280,000 men and women working in every sector of Canada's economy.
