2008 New Models

Volkswagen introduces two new models at the 2008 Canadian International Auto Show

AJAX - Volkswagen Canada is pleased to announce the Canadian debut of two new production vehicles at the 2008 Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto. The first of these new models is the 2009 Passat CC, which was first introduced to the world at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit last month. The second is the 2009 Routan, which made its North American debut last week at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show.

The Passat CC is an evocative new coupe-like design with sedan access and functionality. The CC features a muscular shoulder line, which visually connects the front wheel wells to the taillights, providing an emotional and expressive stance. It will come standard in Canada with the 2.0T engine, producing 200 horsepower and 207 lbs.-ft of torque, and matched to either a standard six-speed manual or optional six-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic(TM) mode. Available as an option is a 3.6L 6 cylinder engine, with 280 horsepower and 266 lbs.-ft of torque. The 3.6L model comes equipped exclusively with a six-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic and 4Motion all-wheel drive.

With an unmistakable front-end, the grille sports two cross-struts and a centrally placed Volkswagen logo between trapezoidal headlamps. In the lower area, three large air inlets and integrated turn signals and fog lights dominate the visual image. An indicator of the CC's excellent overall aerodynamic qualities, it boasts a drag coefficient of only 0.29. The rear end is also marked by large-surface dual taillights, which produce an unmistakable visual image, day and night. A rear spoiler - styled into the trunk lid - tames air turbulence and, like its counterpart at the front end, supplies greater down force. The large rear window continues the roof line, extending into the short but high-opening trunk lid. The styling makes the window appear even larger and the trunk lid even smaller. It extends the look of the glass and underscores the dynamic character of the CC.

Newly developed for the CC is an electrically actuated Panorama power vent sunroof. The transparent roof is 29.5 inches long and 44 inches wide, covering the entire front area up to the B pillar. Volkswagen's attention to detail is further exemplified in the interior of the Passat CC with four ergonomically formed seats with available climate control, new instruments, new door trim, new radio and navigation system and a unique multi-spoke steering wheel. The rear seats offer ergonomically optimized lateral support on the sides of the seatbacks and seat surfaces and optional heated seats will be available.

The 2009 Passat CC will be available in the Canadian market this fall. The prices will be announced as we get closer to launch, however it will be positioned at a premium over Passat.

The 2009 Routan, an all-new seven-passenger minivan, delivers the best of both worlds: a vehicle that offers European design, fit, finish, and driving dynamics, combined with market relevant features offering outstanding value to the Canadian consumer. The vehicle is instantly recognizable as a member of the Volkswagen family, with its stylized front grille and exterior treatments. The interior enhancements create an environment that is visually pleasing, modern, and meticulously detailed. While pleasing and contemporary, the interior also follows the traditional Volkswagen design philosophy that form follows function. Second row captain's chairs offer a level of luxury and comfort while still providing the convenience of a traditional minivan, with over 32.7 cubic feet available behind the third row seats and a full 83 cubic feet available behind the second row.

The Routan will come standard with a 3.8L V6, providing 197 hp and 230 lb. ft. of torque, and will be available with an optional 4.0L V6 with power ratings of 253 hp and 263 lb. ft. of torque. Both engines are mated to a standard six-speed automatic transmission. Also featured on this vehicle is a European tuned suspension and steering optimized for handling and improved driving dynamics. Standard all-season traction control and ESP, brings safety and security to all occupants. <<

The Routan offers a host of desirable features, including:

- Conversation Mirror

- Rear seat entertainment system with two 9 inch screens for second and third row, wireless headsets, and remote control

- Dual power sliding doors with power windows

- Touch screen navigation with thirty gigabyte hard drive

- Power lift gate with flood lamp

- And no less than thirteen cup holders >>

The Routan will be built for Volkswagen in Windsor, Ontario, and will be positioned to compete in the import minivan segment. Pricing will be announced closer to the fall launch.

John White, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group Canada Inc., said: "We are very excited about these two new additions to our vehicle line-up. The Passat CC, with its expressive and incredibly appealing design, as well as the Canadian-built Routan minivan, an entry into a significant market, will surely contribute to our success in Canada."
