Human Resource - Recruiting Trends

Video recruiting will be the new battleground in the war for talent

TORONTO - As the "war for talent" intensifies in Canada, employers are increasingly turning to video recruiting to build their employment brand.

"This trend is about giving prospective employees a chance to see what kind of work environment they are applying to" said Michael Sitayeb, Director of Product Development and Marketing at The Beacon Group.

Working with a number of clients to advise on the importance of building a successful employer brand with a healthy organizational profile and is a leading expert on the topic. The company is tracking the video recruitment trend among Canadian companies fighting for a new generation of talent.

Employers in the U.S., including Google, Microsoft and Six Flags have used short videos to promote their corporate cultures, work environments and job dynamics to applicants. The videos are often posted on the main website of the company.

"Lately we've seen the movement of these videos to job boards to supplement text descriptions" said Sitayeb. "It's another way to provide a bit of added-value to your job-post. It gives a good impression to the applicant, and if the video is well done they leave with a good impression"

Sometimes more than one video may be used to give insight on more than one department. Also the videos are often posted on YouTube or other video banks to act as viral marketing for people surfing other sites.

"Companies spend so much time building their brands on the marketplace, yet they're just beginning to build their brand in the job market" added Sitayeb.

"A video is the simplest way to start building that brand. This is why video recruiting will be the new battleground in the war for talent"
