Museum hosts ‘health’ symposiums
Kitchener - To complement their newest curriculum based education program, Kids In Motion: a Healthy Start (KIM), The Children’s Museum in downtown Kitchener is hosting two symposiums on healthy eating this month.
Funded by the Canadian Institute of Health Research, the Museum has organized two salon style forums where they will welcome experts from within the health care industry to discuss and explore the state of health in this Region. Free of charge to participants, the symposiums are meant to evoke discussion in an open forum, guide residents of Waterloo Region to healthy living resources and aid them in making informed choices about healthy eating.
“The Museum has made healthy living a priority and that really began we the Exhibits Café opened in our lobby a year and half ago. Since then, we’ve launched a curriculum based healthy eating school program, we’ve organized two Café Scientifique salons and are in the process of planning a healthy living fair,” says David Marskell, the Museum’s CEO. “Our goal is to allow community members an opportunity to learn and discuss healthy living issues in an open forum.”
Four panel experts will be present this Tuesday to discuss Hungry Minds: Nutrition, Public Health and our Community.
* Patricia Wainwright, PhD, Professor, Department of Health Studies and Gerontology, University of Waterloo
* Drew Harvey, M.Sc CK, Director and Founder, The Healthy Weights Clinic
* Dr. Som Thammasouk, B.Sc, N.D., Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, Bowen Therapist, A Body in Motion
* Pat Vanderkooy, MSc, RD, Public Health Nutritionist, Healthy Communities and Policy, Health Determinants, Planning and Evaluation, Region of Waterloo Public Health
