Less Law, More Order: The Truth about Reducing Crime with Dr. Irvin Waller
Waterloo Region On Friday, March 13, 2009, the Waterloo Region Crime Prevention Council presents Dr. Irvin Waller and a discussion about “Less Law, More Order: The Truth about Reducing Crime”. Based on his book by the same name, Waller will look at effective and affordable crime reduction strategies through smarter policing, not more police, and the re-allocation of taxes from what does not work to what has worked. He looks at long term solutions to youth gangs, violence against women and common property crime.
Dr. Waller, a professor with the Department of Criminology at the University of Ottawa is the founding CEO of the International Centre for Prevention of Crime (affiliated with the United Nations) as well as the Institute for the Prevention of Crime at the University of Ottawa. He has written pioneering publications on crime policy, including incarceration and victim rights and has won prizes internationally for his contributions, particularly to UN standards. Less Law, More Order uses the recent conclusions from the World Health Organization and other prestigious commissions.
