Laurier student a finalist for national entrepreneurship award

WATERLOO – Wilfrid Laurier University student Matt Inglot was selected as one of six finalists from universities across Canada to compete for the national Wes Nicol Entrepreneurial Award in Ottawa on March 23 and 24.

Inglot competed in the Laurier Entrepreneurship Challenge to earn a shot at the national award. His business, Tilted Pixel (www.tiltedpixel.com), offers comprehensive website services specifically designed to meet the business goals of clients.

"I am thrilled to have won the Entrepreneurship Challenge and look forward to presenting Tilted Pixel in Ottawa,” said Inglot, a fourth-year business and computer science student. “The recognition and opportunity from the Entrepreneurship Challenge is energizing at a time when we are tackling exciting challenges such as seeking out larger office space and doubling the size of our present team – all while making sure I can finish my degrees."

The Wes Nicol Entrepreneur competition is divided into two phases. In the first phase, each competing school runs a local-level competition with funding provided by the Wes Nicol competition. The six finalists from those schools move on to the final round of competition in Ottawa.

“Laurier is well known for producing students with innovative business ideas. It’s not just about what we teach them but also how they apply their learning in the real world,” said Steve Farlow, executive director of Laurier’s Schlegel Centre for Entrepreneurship. “Matt has worked hard to develop, launch, and grow his business and we are proud of his progress thus far. We look forward to seeing Tilted Pixel achieve even more success in the near future.”

Now in its 12th year, the Wes Nicol Entrepreneurial Award is a national non-profit competition designed to promote entrepreneurship at Canadian post-secondary institutions. The award ceremony will take place at the Château Laurier in Ottawa on March 24.
