Globe and Mail Has Largest Combined Print & Online Readership of Any Newspaper

TORONTO - The 2008 newspaper readership data released today by NADbank shows The Globe and Mail has the largest combined print and online readership of any newspaper in Canada; a weekly average of 2.93 million, up 4 per cent from last year.

These numbers underscore the Globe and Mail's trusted, leadership position in the Canadian market," commented Phillip Crawley, Publisher and CEO, The Globe and Mail. "Quality content, a strong brand, and aggressive innovation win out by delivering strong readership."

The Globe's online readership continues to grow - up 16 per cent over last year to a weekly average of 1,110,400.

The Globe and Mail's newspaper performance remains strong with average weekday readership of 902,800 and average Saturday readership of 1,001,700. In addition, The Globe has the largest readership of all weekday newspapers in the key demographics: household incomes of $100K and greater; personal incomes of $100K and greater; university educated; and managers and professionals, among others.

The Globe continues to dominate the national newspaper market with national weekday readership 107 per cent greater and Saturday readership 126 per cent greater than that of the National Post. In addition, The Globe enjoys a 122 percent advantage in online readership and a 96 per cent advantage in net print/online combined.

The Globe's investment in expanding its Vancouver product and editorial coverage has paid off with an increase of weekday newspaper readership of 17 per cent.
