A Brighter Future for Children with Disabilities

Waterloo - KidsAbility Foundation overtook Centre Court at Conestoga Mall with the help of media partners 96.7 CHYM, KIX 106.7, 570 News and Rogers TV for the 4th Annual Kids Can’t Wait Radiothon that was broadcasted live April 3, 2009. This 12-hour event raised an unbelievable $210,406 in support of programs and services at KidsAbility!

“We are so fortunate to live in such a caring community that believes in providing children with disabilities the opportunities to reach their full potential,” says Lisa Talbot, Executive Director, KidsAbility Foundation. “Thanks to the collective efforts of our talented media partners the community was brought together to support the over 4,000 children who receive therapy throughout Waterloo Region and Wellington County.”

Parents, therapists, staff and volunteers shared stories of hope and the triumphs made possible through KidsAbility. These stories touched our generous community, stories that will not be soon forgotten. Stories of the triumphs of a child with cerebral palsy who learned how to walk; of a child with autism being able to communicate with their family and peers for the first time; or of a teenager who can now ride a bike and comb their hair, things that we often take for granted. Thanks to the success of the Radiothon, more success stories will be written on the walls at KidsAbility for children who just want to be able to live the best life that they can and to reach their full potential.

Listeners and viewers responded generously by calling in their donations to the pledge hotline in support of our radiothon or by stopping by Centre Court to make their donation in person. Those who dropped by Conestoga Mall enjoyed the live entertainment and activities provided by:

Erick Traplin;
Jazlyn J Author Renna Bruce joined by Walter Gretzky were on-hand to sign books;
Wings of Paradise Insect Encounters;
Kids On The Block; and
The Great Gerard.

Thank you to all of the countless volunteers who made this day possible, including some of our celebrity volunteers, local politicians including Mayor Carl Zehr, Mayor Brenda Halloran and Elizabeth Witmer, MPP answered the phone lines and showed their support.

”It was an incredible day of hope for our families. Every donation made today will help children in our community to leap towards a bright future. Thank you to everyone who donated and got involved,” says Talbot.
