Children in Need of Treatment Program Expands
Waterloo Region - The Ontario Government is moving forward with its Poverty Reduction Strategy and providing urgent and essential dental care free-of-charge to children in low-income families. The Children in Need of Treatment (CINOT) program provides emergency dental care from birth to age 13. As of January 1, 2009, the program has expanded to reach children age 17 and under.
Free dental care is now available for preschoolers, children and teens who meet the dental and financial criteria. This increases access to many youth in the Region who suffer from urgent dental problems.
Region of Waterloo Public Health will be promoting the CINOT expansion this April as its focus for Dental Health Month. There will be opportunities for teens to be screened for eligibility for the Cinot program.
