1,000 Kitchener students to see award-winning environmental documentary
KITCHENER - Preceding this month's much-anticipated Earth Week events, on Wednesday, April 8, more than 1,000 local students had the opportunity to participate in a special screening of Garbage! The Revolution Starts at Home hosted by the City of Kitchener and presented by Tim Hortons.
Mayor Zehr and Councillor Berry Vrbanovic were there to welcome the students on behalf of the City of Kitchener. The participating students from 14 local schools will also meet Andrew Nisker, the Canadian writer and director of the award-winning environmental documentary, who will be on hand to introduce the film and answer questions.
Similar events will also be hosted in Guelph, London, Hamilton and Owen Sound, with Kitchener having the highest attendance out of all of the five Ontario participating cities.
Garbage! The Revolution Starts at Home follows a typical family on their three-month journey, as they sort and store all of their garbage in the family garage. This 45-minute movie challenges its viewers to think about how their actions and reactions affect our planet and the lives of future generations. The film has inspired audiences across Canada, the United States and as far away as South Africa.
Cineplex Cinemas will be hosting this film at the Galaxy Cinemas Waterloo (550 King Street North) from 10-11:30am. This special event is free-of-charge to elementary and secondary school students and was reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. A recycling station and information booths will also be on hand for students.
The screening of the movie is hosted by the City of Kitchener and sponsored by Tim Hortons, the Recycling Council of Ontario and Cineplex Odeons.
