KWS MUSICIAN AND MAESTRO OFF TO CARNEGIE HALL

To take part in Youtube Symphony Orchestra

KITCHENER – Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony (KWS) principal bass player, Ian Whitman, is one of five Canadians among 90 musicians from around the world selected to play for the Youtube Symphony Orchestra (YTSO) at Carnegie Hall in New York City. More than 3,000 video auditions were sent to Youtube and the final group was chosen by a combination of online votes from viewers and judging by professional musicians. As well, KWS Music Director, Edwin Outwater has been asked to assist Michael Tilson Thomas, conductor of the YTSO, and to conduct one of the pieces: Lou Harrison's Canticle No. 3.

The members of the YouTube Symphony Orchestra have been awarded an all-expenses paid trip to New York City to participate in three days of rehearsals with San Francisco Symphony Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas, to prepare for the performance at Carnegie Hall on April 15.
