Green Transportation

Waterloo Region is receiving $350,000 from the federal Green Municipal Fund for the Moving Forward 2031, the Regional Transportation Master Plan.

Region of Waterloo - A main objective of the RTMP is to create a sustainable community transportation vision that protects the natural environment, provides opportunity for social cohesion, creates an economically competitive market, and promotes a healthy lifestyle. The need to create a strategy for a more sustainable transportation plan is vital now to accommodate our growth while enhancing our quality of life, continuing our economic vibrancy, and protecting our natural and heritage environment.

The RTMP is the over-arching transportation policy that will tie in with other initiatives such as Regional Growth Management Strategy, the Provincial Places to Grow legislation, the Regional Rapid Transit Initiative, and the new Regional Official Plan.

The Green Municipal Fund is an endowment financed by the Government of Canada and managed by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities The Fund supports partnerships and leveraging of both public and private sector funding to reach higher standards of air, water andsoil quality, and climate protection.
