What Are You Afraid Of?

Annual Dinner invites Canadian Journalist and Author of “Risk” - Dan Gardner

Waterloo Region – On Thursday, April 23, 2009, the Waterloo Region Crime Prevention Council presents the 31st Annual Justice Dinner featuring Dan Gardner, Canadian journalist and author of “Risk: The Science and Politics of Fear”. The theme this year is “Understanding Fear” and Gardner will examine what causes us to fear and how that fear, real or perceived, influences our daily lives. Current senior writer and columnist with the Ottawa Citizen, Gardner was senior policy advisor to the minister of education, and social policy adviser to the Premier of Ontario prior to entering journalism. He holds a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School and a masters degree in modern history from York University.

Tim Jackson, of Tech Capital Partners will be the Master of Ceremonies. The agenda is as follows:

5:30 – 6:30p.m. – reception
6:30 – 7:30 p.m. – dinner
7:30 – 8:00 p.m. – student performances
8:00 – 9:00 p.m. – Dan Gardner, keynote address

The Waterloo Region Crime Prevention Council works collaboratively to reduce and prevent crime, victimization and fear of crime. It is an advisory committee to the Region of Waterloo and consists of 39 members representing the community-at -large, social services, education, health, planning, justice, police, and community agencies among others.
