City of Kitchener building division hosts information seminar for new residential homebuyers

KITCHENER - Staff from the city's building division will host a public seminar for new homebuyers next Wednesday, May 6, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Aud.

The event is intended to educate new homeowners with some helpful hints on a variety of topics including:

* What you should know or consider before buying a house;
* Energy conservation and operating costs;
* Questions to ask the builder and researching the builder;
* Surface drainage on your lot;
* Home/property maintenance.

''Buying a home can be an overwhelming experience for anyone -- especially if you've never done it before,'' said Mike Seiling, the city's director of building. ''Our goal through this event is to take the intimidation out of buying a new home, by arming new homeowners with the know-how around owning and maintaining their home and property.''

The information seminar has also been organized to acknowledge International Building Safety Week. Organized by the Ontario Building Officials Association, International Building Safety Week aims to heighten the awareness around and ensure public safety in the buildings people live, work and play in.

Light refreshments will be available. Everyone is welcome.
