tri-Pride announces trio headliner of gay & lesbian live entertainment
Waterloo Region - tri-Pride will feature not one but three headline performers at its annual outdoor festival this year. Levi Kreis, Faith Nolan, and Nancy (Nann) Rancourt will perform on the live entertainment stage on Roos Island, Victoria Park, Kitchener, on Saturday, June 6th. tri-Pride is the only festival in Waterloo Region and area featuring exclusively Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) live entertainment. Last year, more than 4,000 attended.
The festival also features local LGBTQ talent Charlena Russell and festival mainstay Miss Drew and Crew (performances by male/female “drag” impersonators), while new this year are indie performers Dookie and Josie Southern. Feature dance performances include the ROTC (Righteously Outrageous Twirling Corps) Toronto, The Triangle Squares dancers, the return of the popular Ota’a Tane all-male hula dancers, and much more.
The 2009 theme “Unity in Diversity” links LGBTQ families to their respective multicultural and diverse communities. “LGBTQ people come from all walks of life, from all kinds of backgrounds,” Shelley Secrett, festival co-chair, explains. “This is one way of telling our diverse background stories, one way of reminding everyone that LGBTQ persons constitute families and are connected to the broader cultural fabric in the region.”
tri-Pride week happens May 31st to June 6th, 2009, and is proud to be a part of Kitchener’s Tapestry cultural festival.
