Local Hike for Hospice supporters appreciate that funds raised here, stay here
Guelph - Clients, volunteers and friends are lining up their sponsors, lacing up their cross trainers and going hiking to raise money for the ongoing operating costs of Hospice Wellington with Hike for Hospice.
Local salon owner, Iside Dallan organized her cut-a-thon to coincide with National Hospice Day.
Like the Hike for Hospice, all proceeds, 100% of the funds raised here, stay here. “One of my
stylists had benefited so much from the support Hospice gave her mother. We wanted to give back
to them, they helped so much. It made a real difference,” she says.
“Hike for Hospice is the spring fundraising event for Hospice Family members, their friends,
families and colleagues,” says Brent Charette, Hospice Wellington Executive Director. “It is an
opportunity to recognize the significant changes in Hospice over the past year and to look forward
to what’s next particularly the ten-bed residential hospice, currently under construction.”
Community sponsors have played a significant role in the success of Hike for Hospice with national
supporters Bayshore Home Health, Wyeth and GlaxoSmithKline Foundation providing a strong base
from which to build local support. In Guelph, Bayshore is participating in the Hike by creating a
team and obtaining donations. Joining our local event sponsor, Stantec, many other local
businesses and services like the YMCA, Chartelli Wines, The Guelph Storm, FraBerts, Footprints
EcoStore, and Shoppers Drug Mart have demonstrated their community spirit with their material
support.
Hike for Hospice takes place rain or shine on May 2, 2009 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at The
Arboretum, University of Guelph, Alumni House Entrance. The registration fee of $20 includes
stainless steel water bottle, t-shirt, tote bag, goodies and live music.
