Roger Lawler Receives Distinguished Leadership Award From Ontario Catholic Supervisory Officers Association

Waterloo Region - Waterloo Catholic District School Board Education Director Roger Lawler was last night honoured by the Ontario Catholic Supervisory Officers Association (OCSOA) with its 2009 Distinguished Leadership Award.

Lawler is a former president of OCSOA and currently serves as Chair of the English Catholic Council of Directors of Education AND the Ontario Council of Directors of Education -- the body representing all 72 Ontario school board Directors of Education.

A father of five, Lawler is also a leader in parish, civic and humanitarian activities. He is a lector in his church community and has served as the Education Chair in Kitchener-Waterloo’s annual United Way Campaign. He was recently appointed as a community representative to the City of Waterloo’s Audit Committee and continues to play a significant advisory role to Senior Staff in the Ontario Ministry of Education.

The nomination put forward by Lawler’s peers reads in part:

“During his last eleven years as Director of the Board Roger has demonstrated exceptional leadership as a Catholic leader committed to ensuring that all students learn and succeed…His efforts at the provincial level to ensure people working in education have the tools and resources to deliver quality educational services is well known and widely appreciated. Roger is genuine and authentic. He is respected by students, colleagues, parents, community members and staff. He demonstrates a real interest in all people and treats them all with respect and dignity irrespective of their job or status…Roger is a person of integrity who consistently demonstrates prudent judgment, a sincere interest and care for others, a good sense of humour, and an authentic joie de vivre. His constant efforts to improve and undertake new challenges are a testament to his inner spirit and his commitment to life long learning. In the midst of all of his gifts, it is Roger’s humility that truly sets him apart.”
