Tom Mitchell appointed OPG President and CEO

Industry veteran currently heads Nuclear Division

TORONTO - The Ontario Power Generation (OPG) Board of Directors has named Tom Mitchell as President and CEO effective July 1, 2009 following the retirement of Jim Hankinson.

"Having considered both internal and external candidates," said Board Chair Jake Epp, "The Board is pleased with the outcome." Tom Mitchell has demonstrated strong leadership abilities, considerable talents in moving a complex business forward, solid knowledge of OPG and the challenges it faces, and the kind of values that make a good CEO", said Mr. Epp. "Mitchell is the right executive to lead OPG in the next phase of the company's development".

Mitchell is currently OPG's Chief Nuclear Officer.

Mr. Epp, on behalf of the Board, also expressed his appreciation of Hankinson's efforts as a Board member starting in 2003, and, as President and CEO commencing in 2005. "The company faced significant challenges when Jim took over. Under his leadership OPG achieved discipline and focus. The company's improved performance results speak to his skills and attributes as CEO", remarked Mr. Epp.

George Smitherman, Deputy Premier and Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, commended the selection. "I know that OPG has faced a number of challenges. The appointment of Tom Mitchell as CEO of Ontario Power Generation is recognition of the progress that's been made within OPG. I am delighted with the pool of talent in OPG's executive ranks and the selection of this internal candidate."

Mitchell said, "OPG is a performance driven company. Our dedicated and professional employees are committed to delivering safe and reliable electricity to the people of Ontario everyday. I am looking forward to working with each employee to build on the solid foundation Jim will leave behind. I appreciate the Minister's support."
